Manati' meaning= (have breasts) by Native Americans.The Florida Manatee is a subspecies of the West Indian Manatee.The largest surviving member of the aquatic mammal order Sirenia.The largest on record weighed in at 1,655 kg(3,649 lb)-4.6 m (15 ft long)Once abundant is now endangered.Red Tide the marine algae blooms of the species Karenia brevia produce brevetoxins that can have toxic effects on the central nervous system of creatures exposed 2 the blooms which are becoming more frequent causeing numerous deaths in a small suviving Manati population.Manati use a higher frequency than ships which causes disorientation,boat accidents also cause many mutilations & deaths.Human interference in the Natural world 4 our own selfish shortsighted materialism is causing another once abundant species 2 plunge towards extinction.Female starved sailors once upon a time mistook them 4 mermaids.Maybe we all would like 2 believe in mermaids but if we don't save reality then reality will be no mermaid fantasy.Life is precious,what is & what isn't is in the eye of the beholder.
