Location:Southern tip of White Island,Isle of Shoals-Rye,New Hampshire.
Coordinates:42 58 02 N
70 37 24 W
Station established:1821
Built in 1859 of granite & brick.
Height:85 feet above mean water.
Lens range:14 nautical miles every 15 seconds.
Foghorn:sounds every 30 seconds.
Automated in 1986.
Keeper Thomas Laightons daughter Celia Thaxter a famous writer/author who wrote this in 'The Wreck of the Pocahontas'
I lit the lamps in the lighthouse tower.
For the sun dropped down & the day was dead.
They shone like a glorious clustered flower.
Ten golden & five red.

During this time,after my life & future plans fell apart I volenteered for the Nantucket Lightship LV112 now a designated National Treasure down the street from where I lived in East Boston.I found it to be a very positive...
